Responsibilities:

  • To provide strong and effective leadership & management of Health and Safety at the Site
  • Ensure HSSER is fully integrated into all business processes and further develop the existing positive Site HSSER culture. Ensure HSSER compliance with the law, relevant regulations and all DS Smith Standards, including the Management Safety Standard.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with relevant regulatory and industry organizations and actively participate in meetings and initiatives with them. Review, develop & implement relevant and effective H&S Policies, Procedures & Standards to ensure that they are legally compliant and meet Divisional / Group Standards & Policies.
  • Responsible with all other Managers for achieving the targeted improvements in HS, including reductions in accidents/incidents, improvements in near miss / observational safety reporting, increases in audit scores, and improvements in relevant employee survey scores.
  • Ensure that the site fulfills its legal obligations for H&S reporting & auditing (on behalf of leadership who are accountable for H&S), with the support of external consultant services
  • Ensuring Site HSSER performance is effectively controlled, monitored, analyzed, and audited; providing feedback to relevant Site, Regional, Divisional & Group personnel; and assisting in the development and implementation of appropriate preventative and corrective actions.
  • Development of HSSER management documentation & information for all.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner, the HSSER performance across Site and regulatory bodies. Develop and improve data integrity for all H&S management information
  • Identifies Health and Safety training needs, participates and organizes staff training
  • Manage environmental specialist within the team

Requirements:

  • Experienced and robust Health and Safety professional with solid leadership skills able to make a positive impact within a challenging & dynamic working environment.
  • Experience in maintaining, developing and implementing HSSER Policies, Procedures and Standards in a dynamic environment to ensure compliance with the law and relevant regulations.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with site personnel and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective planning & organizational skills.
  • Provide HSSER leadership within a collaborative team working environment - able to clearly interpret & explain complex HSSER issues (including behavioral safety), influence decisions and make things happen.
  • Relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Confidence to challenge personnel when appropriate.
  • Lead and undertake any required HSSER investigations and report, in a professional and timely manner, to relevant Site personnel and/or external organizations.
  • Experience of collaboration and communication with external regulatory bodies or organizations.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and conducting HSSER audit programs.
