About the Organization

Our client is a nongovernmental organization, an interdisciplinary public policy institute dedicated to promoting the reform process in Europe by influencing politics and civil society.

As an independent, interdisciplinary think-thank, it combines a wide range of knowledge, skills, and capabilities to research excellence with policy advocacy for piloting social innovation and institutional reforms in Bulgaria and Europe in a number of areas, most notably economic and legal reforms, social inclusion of vulnerable groups, migration, human rights, energy and climate, organized crime, anti-corruption, radicalization.

The objectives of the institute are to:

• Provide an enhanced institutional and policy capacity for a successful European integration process, especially in the area of justice and home affairs; • Promote institutional reform and the practical implementation of democratic values in legal and economic practice; • Monitor public attitudes and serve as a watchdog of the institutional reform process.

About the role:

The organization is looking for a Project manager who will support the ongoing research and advocacy projects in the areas of energy and climate security, energy markets, energy transition, and energy governance; economic and political influence of authoritarian states in energy and climate; green innovation and social acceptance of low-carbon technologies. He/she will be engaged in aiding the design of research methodologies, as well as policy research and analysis. He/she will deal with data collection and interpretation, and draft policy, and academic and analytical texts, presenting research results to academic and professional audiences and the media. He/she will interact with a broad range of partners nationally and internationally. He/she will be part of a well-settled, highly professional policy research team and will report to the Energy and Climate Program’s director.

Requirements and skills:

  • Master's degree or higher in science, energy, economics, or other closely related field.
  • 5 years of experience in sustainable development/project management/economic development/ consulting, with a minimum of 3 years of work experience on energy and climate or related topics is a requirement.
  • Familiarity with national and international programs
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills
  • Practical experience in roles related to civil society engagement, communication, lobbying, and policy advocacy engaging the private sector, society, and government on sustainable energy-related issues is a plus
  • Experience with quantitative methods of research
  • Excellent partnership, relationship management, and diplomatic skills
  • Strong planning and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and a strong capacity to work independently
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team
  • Excellent command of English both written and spoken

Main accountabilities of the role are to:

  • Lead the planning and implementation of the project’s life cycle
  • Lead research initiatives, including coordinating necessary inputs, literature reviews, synthesizing research findings, development of analytical framework, collection and analysis of complex data, and critical writing, editing, and revising
  • Participate in meetings and events as per the project calendar
  • Ensure the timely and cost-effective execution of project activities and the organization of related events.
  • Collect data and collate global and local best practices and cases
  • Write reports, articles, presentations, and discussion papers where required
  • Build project relationships with external counterparts, communities of practice, and stakeholders; contribute to external communications and media work as needed.
  • Contribute to the overall functioning of the projects team by providing proactive and ad hoc support where necessary
  • Build strong relationships with private and public sectors regarding energy and climate politics
